The number of children being targeted over the internet by bullies has increased across all age groups. The Education Department in Northern Ireland is taking this seriously and is starting a campaign as part of this years anti bullying week, detailing response and prevention. Cyberbullying is defined as one child targeting another using interactive technologies. Authorities are promoting the concept of stop, block and tell. The fact that children are being targeted online is one which concerns parents and teachers and the response to the Northern Ireland campaign has been overwhelming, Lee Kane - Regional Anti Bullying Co-ordinator. Individuals can be targeted because they have inadequate IT Security and are able to open e-mails with virus attachments, or through anonymous hate mail. This can be from any IT producte.g. mobile phones or an IT service- social networking sites or on-line gaming. The most important message authorities are aiming to pass across to parents is to teach their child internet safety and respect for others on-line.
